TOM:UA Tennis Ball Cutter

Project Manager

  • Led a student engineering team in designing a 3D Printed tool for the elderly to safely, cheaply, and independently cut tennis balls for the feet of mobility walkers.
  • The files used to create this tool, along with instructions for assembly will be uploaded to the TOM Global website so it can be recreated by other TOM Communities around the globe.
  • 3D Printing Club

    Founder

  • Created an online forum for students on engineering design teams at the University of Alabama to collaborate and share experiences and knowledge of 3D printing.
  • Custom FFF/FDM Cartesian Printer

    BTT 32-bit SKR 1.3, TMC 2209s, Wanhao i3

  • Integrated electronics payload into printer frame for cleanliness and ease of transport.
  • Added all-metal hotend, filament run-out sensor, and auto-bed-leveling to decrease manual involvment in standard printing operations.
  • Modified IKEA Lack table to minimize vibrations created by machine.
  • Pollution Monitoring Probe

    Arduino-Powered Particulate & Decible Meters

  • Designed, programmed and built a probe to measure pollution in several categories.
  • Collected data will be compared to similarly sized towns to better understand Tuscaloosa's pollution levels.
  • Electric Skateboard

    Lithium-Ion Battery, Custom Electric Drivetrain

  • Fabricated, and 3D-printed a custom battery enclosure designed to protect the battery while bending and flexing with the skateboard deck.
  • Learned to spot-weld, created 10S2P 18650 battery pack.
  • Designed and machined single-motor belt powered drivetrain.
  • Arduino-Powered R2-D2 Robot

Programmed Android App, Aruduino Bluetooth & Motor Control

  • Used Arduino Bluetooth breakout board to control a modified R2-D2 toy robot.
  • Created custom Android application to control features on the robot.
